Market City is decked out with dazzling décor to mark the Lunar New Year, including our beautiful flying dragon display. View the dragons across all three levels as they chase a magical flying orb, symbolic of wisdom, enlightenment and spiritual energy.
While you’re here, snap a selfie in front of our traditional dragon door display. The gorgeous door represents the heart of the Lunar New Year — coming home and celebrating with the people we love most.
Spectacular high pole and dragon dance performances
Saturday 10 February, 2pm & 6pm | Sunday 11 February, 2pm
Level 1, Centre Court
Some of our biggest highlights each year are the incredible high pole lion and dragon dance performances by Jin Wu Koon. Performed on 3-metre-high poles, this breathtaking artform dates back centuries and needs to be seen to be believed.
PLUS in addition to free performances, we’ll also be providing a massive giveaway of soft dragon toys, Lunar New Year décor and lucky red envelopes.
Be sure to arrive early. As one of our most popular and celebrated events, it gets busy!
Free, centre-wide store blessings
Sunday 18 February
1pm — 2pm, centre-wide
Take part in our centre-wide store blessings, as Jin Wu Koon’s lions and dragons dragons bless our stores with prosperity and good fortune for the coming year. The blessings will start on Level 3 and work their way down.
This traditional event always brings joy and happiness. Open to all!
Kids lion and dragon dance workshops
Thursday 18 January — Sunday 21 January | Sunday 18 February
2pm & 3pm, Level 1, Centre Court
Bring the kids in for a free lion and dragon dance workshop at Market City! Using storytelling to introduce the concepts of courage, teamwork and physical activity, these workshops are a wonderful way to start the Lunar New Year.
Beautiful Chinese calligraphy
Tuesday 23 January — Friday 9 February | Friday 16 February — Sunday 18 February
10am — 6pm, Level 1, Centre Court*
To celebrate the beauty and meaning behind Chinese calligraphy, we’re offering lucky New Year messages in centre with wishes for health, wealth and prosperity. Stop by for a personalised keepsake to commemorate the Year of the Dragon.

Collect a lucky red envelope
Friday 9 February — Sunday 11 February
During the Lunar New Year, it’s tradition to give the gift of a bright red envelope — hóngbāo or lai see — to wish friends and family good fortune for the year ahead.
In the spirit of this, Market City will be giving out almost 5,000 lucky red envelopes to bless our wonderful community! Visit us for your own envelope, with a unique Market City gift voucher and a collectable Year of the Dragon coin.
Get a temporary dragon tattoo
Saturday 17 February — Sunday 18 February

Have some fun with the family and get a free temporary dragon tattoo at Market City! With gold and red options available, this centre activity is a great way to show off your spirit for the Lunar New Year.
Celebrate with a traditional feast
10am until late, Level 3 Dining Precinct
Enjoy a traditional feast at one of the fabulous Asian restaurants in our Level 3 Dining Precinct, with many choices including yum cha, hot pot, noodles, sushi, Korean BBQ, traditional Chinese and more.
