Move With Market City | Free initiatives for movement and wellbeing

Discover a new way to get active during Move With Market City.

Improve your health, try a new activity or simply have fun with family and friends. Move with Market City brings together a series of free experiences for all ages and abilities, right here in centre.

Find your balance with weekly Tai Chi Tuesdays, test your skills at the Sydney Haymarket Badminton Challenge, or enjoy a casual game of table tennis at Sydney’s ping pong playground on Level 2.

Move mindfully at Tai Chi Tuesdays

When: 12pm & 1pm, 4 Aug–27 Oct 2026
Where: Main Entry to Paddy’s Markets (Thomas St, Haymarket – Undercover)

Take the time to slow down and recharge with FREE Tai Chi Tuesdays.

These 40-minute classes offer a gentle, low-impact way to improve balance, flexibility, relaxation, strength and overall wellbeing. Whether you’re new to Tai Chi or have practised before, everyone is welcome.

Led by internationally recognised Tai Chi Masters, each session includes a gentle Qigong warm-up, traditional Yang-style Tai Chi and a guided cool down in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

No bookings required. Simply wear loose clothes and comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water and arrive a few minutes early.

Meet your instructors

Classes are led by internationally recognised instructors from two of Sydney’s leading Traditional Yang-style Tai Chi schools.

Master Alice Dong

Master Alice Dong is a highly respected Traditional Yang-style Tai Chi Master and founder of the Pei Lei Wushu Association in Sydney.

With many years of experience, she combines traditional teaching with a warm, supportive approach that encourages confidence while preserving the rich heritage of Tai Chi.

Master Cyril Loa

Master Cyril Loa is an internationally recognised 6th Generation Traditional Yang-style Tai Chi Master with more than a decade of teaching experience. He has represented Australia at international Tai Chi competitions, winning gold and silver medals in China, Japan and Thailand.

As President of the Australia YangZhao Taiji for Health Association and Secretary of the Tai Chi Association of Australia, Master Cyril is passionate about making authentic Tai Chi accessible to the wider community.

Master Sam Ruan

Master Sam Ruan is an internationally recognised 6th Generation Traditional Yang-style Tai Chi Master. Known for his patient and encouraging approach, he helps students build confidence while improving balance, strength, flexibility and coordination.

Master Sam has represented Australia at international Tai Chi competitions, earning gold and silver medals, and is Vice President of both the Australia YangZhao Taiji for Health Association and the Tai Chi Association of Australia.

Join the Haymarket Badminton Challenge

We’re serving up the fun in one of Sydney’s most exciting community sporting events. Market City is transforming into a vibrant badminton destination for the Sydney Haymarket Badminton Challenge as part of the AFT International Sports Fitness Festival.

Enjoy free come-and-try sessions, professional and para badminton demonstrations, exciting lucky draw prizes and the chance to join the Australian Book of Records! That’s right, we’re attempting to be recognised as the first sports festival to set up a full-sized badminton court inside a shopping complex.

Challenge your friends, family or workmates to a game of ping pong at Market City.

Open every day, our free table tennis area provides a fun and active way to enjoy some friendly competition. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned player, everyone is welcome to pick up a paddle and play.

Throughout the Move With Market City program, look out for professional demonstrations, coaching workshops and special events delivered in partnership with Table Tennis NSW.
