There’s more to Mr Meng than spicy noodles…

Our new 1909 Dining Precinct has launched and what better way to start than to welcome famed Chinese restaurant Mr Meng Chongqing Gourmet! The eatery has fast made a name for itself and it’s signature Chongqing spicy noodles, but there’s more to Mr Meng than spicy noodles…
Hailing from Chongqing in South-West China, Meng wanted share his childhood memories of Chongqing cuisine with the world. “They are kind of a recollection of my early life, of my childhood,” he says. “People have different types of memory about their childhood; for me the smell, the taste, the flavour of the noodles, stays in my mind”.
Chongqing cuisine is known for its distinctive spicy and sharp flavours; built on the slow, smouldering burn of dried chillies, the pungent bite of raw garlic, and mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns. Every dish is balanced with the right pairing of ingredients.
So, what should you try when dining at Mr Meng?
A new beef or chicken rice set meals have added to menu. You will find favourites like Kung Pao Chicken, served with rice and a traditional soup with light pepper taste.
We can’t go past the dumplings! The pastry is handmade on the premises and what really makes these shine is the delicious secret sauce. We know it contains roasted chilli oil, black vinegar and garlic but the rest is a mystery.
For something a little different try a cold noodle dish. When the noodles are served cold they are coated with a secret oil and retain the perfect texture.
It’s a light and refreshing dish but still has a kick from the shallow Sichuan sauce in the base of the bowl. The sauce can be mixed through allowing you to adjust the heat to your liking.
Another favourite is the Crispy Fried Pork (appearing on the right, on the left are the delicious rice cakes, see below for info). Served in bite size pieces, this dish is a no brainer for an easy go-to snack!
For dessert try the rice cakes. The subtle flavour is complimented by a sticky sugar syrup and finished off with a sprinkle of toasted soy flour adding a beautiful earthy aroma.
Come in and try it for yourself and let us know which is your favourite dish!
