Take a glimpse at the history of this Sydney landmark

As we continue to make exciting renovations to Market City in 2018, we can’t help but take a look back at where we came from and how our building came to be such a well known Sydney landmark.

Located in the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown, Market City has been a bustling historical cultural centre for many years. Originally built in 1909 as the city’s fruit and vegetable markets, the building is an iconic and significant site of Sydney’s early industrialisation.

Today, located within the heritage significant red-brick façade, is our 1909 Dining Precinct. With interiors inspired by the juxtaposition between old and new, this new food offering pays homage to our rich history.

Providing the ideal environment to savour Sydney’s newest retail dining experience, 1909 also translates to ‘MC‐MIX’ in Roman Numerals, reflecting the true ‘Market City Mix’ of diverse and authentic restaurants within the Precinct.
